Most owners of smartphones, tablets and personal computers are clueless about where their data goes, but suspect it s being scrutinized by others, according to a Harris Poll commissioned by Santa Clara chipmaker Intel.

In the survey of 2,018 adults – the vast majority owners of smartphones, tablets or PCs – 84 percent said they believe some data about them or from their devices is being collected and sold to third parties, Intel reported.

In addition, nearly two-thirds of device owners in the survey admit they have no idea who has access to data from their devices or how it is used.

Asked about emerging technologies, 45 percent were more concerned about their privacy being violated by wearable devices, than from smartphones, tablets and PCs. And 53 percent said they d consider buying an app or service that lets them choose what data their devices share.
