Google’s decision to sever its security contract and hire its own security guards could be a sign that the search giant may be rethinking its relationship with outsourced service workers.

Google announced Thursday that it would hire about 200 security guards, as USA Today reported. The jobs will come with the same benefits as ones that Google employees receive.

About 80 percent of security guards working at Google are part time, according to a survey by the SEIU, the Voice reported.

In recent months, tech companies, which outsource many service jobs to keep control of costs, have faced increasing scrutiny over the working conditions and pay of their service workers such as shuttle drivers and security guards.
