After a series of glitches and delays, perhaps the third time will be the charm for iOS 8.

Apple on Thursday evening unleashed iOS 8.0.2, its latest update to software for iPhones, iPads and iPods. The release aims to fix issues that users experienced iOS 8, which was introduced last week, and iOS 8.0.1, an update that was yanked shortly after its debut on Wednesday.

During the little more than an hour it was available, iOS 8.0.1 caused a number of headaches for Apple, with users complaining that they could not make calls or use the fingerprint sensor on their phones. Fewer than 40,000 people downloaded the update, a spokesman for Apple said. He added that the glitches only affected users of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple s latest gadgets.

We apologize for inconveniencing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who were impacted by the bug in iOS 8.0.1, Apple said in a statement.

With iOS 8.0.2, developers will be able to use HealthKit, a platform for health and fitness apps, the spokesman said. HealthKit is one of the software s most hotly anticipated features, but technical issues delayed its release.
