A new electric car maker has rolled into Silicon Valley. Or rather, it has loudly announced its presence by showing off a prototype of its car, the 2015 Renovo Coupe, at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance over the weekend.
Renovo is calling the $529,000 Coupe — which has the modified chassis of a Shelby American CSX9000 — the “first all-electric American supercar.”
The company has worked on the car “in secret” for four years, and proudly touts its Silicon Valley roots. The car is being built in Campbell with “components and technology from across the globe,” according to a spokeswoman. She said the company has less than 20 workers.
Other key numbers:
- 2015: Renovo expects to deliver the cars (about 100 limited-production vehicles) late next year.
- 500 mph, and 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds: Vroom vroom.

Renovo was founded by Christopher Heiser, CEO, and Jason Stinson, CTO. From a bio sheet provided by the company: Heiser “is best known for his work pioneering the camera phone (LightSurf), creating groundbreaking consumer products (IDEO) and building massively scalable global networks (VeriSign).” Stinson is an 18-year veteran of Intel, a senior engineer and a lecturer at Stanford.
The company would not reveal its investors, saying that information will be announced in coming months.
