Same-day delivery startup Postmates on Tuesday expanded its food delivery service to the South Bay

The San Francisco-based company offers restaurant takeout delivery 24/7 to your home or office using an app. Starting Tuesday, the service is available to residents in San Jose, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Saratoga.  In the Peninsula, it had previously been available only in Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Mountain View.

Similar to Uber or Lyft, users pay for their meal takeout and delivery fee from their smartphone by storing their credit card information in the app.

The startup is offering free delivery through Aug. 17, and the first 250 new users who use the code SJLove get $25 in delivery fee credit. Postmates is also offering new South Bay users the chance to order free grilled cheese through the app, which is available for both iOS and Android from Google Play and iTunes. Normally, deliveries cost at least $5.

Postmates delivers from thousands of restaurants and eateries, and also delivers beer and wine, prescriptions, groceries, diapers, dry cleaning, electronics, cosmetics and other personal and household items. The service is also available in the East Bay, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Boston, Austin, Washington D.C. and Seattle.
