Immigration reform advocates hit the hill with studies

Eager to revive House GOP interest in immigration reform before the August congressional recess, advocates for reform put out a slew of new studies Thursday.

One posits that the short supply of H-1B temporary workers negatively affects tech job creation and wage growth for American workers, even those without college degrees.

The study from the Partnership for a New American Economy, an advocacy group that is for comprehensive immigration reform, looked at cities that suffered the biggest “H-1B shock,” the authors’ term for the opportunity costs of restrictions on the H-1B lotteries.

In 2007 and 2008, New York, northern New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Chicago were some of the cities that missed out on a tech industry growth spurt because of the visa restrictions, according to the study. The negative effect on San Jose and San Francisco in those years was smaller.

Another study by the National Foundation for American Policy says that immigrants are increasingly playing key roles in science and engineering. Another paper by the same organization breaks down the differences between the Senate immigration bill, which passed last year, and the House bill.

Jennifer Rubin, the Washington Post conservative columnist, warned that if the GOP does nothing, it will play to the Democrats hand.

Instead, Republicans should latch on to the high-skilled visa reform proposals, which she calls good conservative policy. Add reforms for so-called Dream Act kids, and you have a package that Democrats will find hard to attack, she says.

NumbersUSA members are very aware of the

why are there “advocates” trying to influence senators? these so called “public officials” should be working in the PUBLICS interest not illegal aliens, I will never vote an incumbent back into office again …ever. To my knowledge I have no doubt no other country on this planet INCLUDING mexico would entertain listening to why their government should overlook the fact that americans who are criminals in their country should be excused and given citizenship ….NONE and I am sickened that a race of people both of hispanic decent and non-citizens illegally here have the audacity to try and influence a Government to aide and abet the down fall of this nation.

      Call your representatives PLEASE

  • John OBrien

    Dear Mr. Obama:

I’m planning to move my family and extended family into Mexico for
my health, and I would like to ask you to assist me.
We’re planning to simply walk across the border from the U.S. into
Mexico, and we’ll need your help to make a few arrangements.

We plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports,
immigration
 quotas and laws.

I’m sure they handle those things the same way you do here So, would
 you
mind telling your buddy, the President of Mexico , that I’m on my
 way over?

Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

    1. Free medical care for my entire family.

    2. English-speaking Government bureaucrats for all services I might
need, whether I use them or not.

    3. Please print all Mexican Government forms in English.

    4. I want my grandkids to be taught Spanish by English-speaking
 (bi-lingual) teachers.

    5. Tell their schools they need to include classes on American
 culture and history.

    6. I want my grandkids to see the American flag on one of the flag
 poles at their school.

    7. Please plan to feed my grandkids at school for both breakfast and
lunch.

    8. I will need a local Mexican driver’s license so I can get easy
 access to
 government services.

    9. I do plan to get a car and drive in Mexico, but I don’t plan to
purchase
car insurance, and I probably won’t make any special effort to learn
 local traffic laws.

    10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo
from
their president to leave me alone, please be sure that every patrol
car has at least one English-speaking officer.

    11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put US. flag
decals
on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not
 want any
complaints or negative comments from the locals.

    12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes,
or
have any labor or tax laws enforced on any business I may start.

    13. Please have the president tell all the Mexican people to be
extremely nice and never say critical things about me or my family,
or about the
strain we might place on their economy.

    14. I want to receive free food stamps.

    15. Naturally, I’ll expect free rent subsidies.

    16. I’ll need income tax credits so that although I don’t pay
 Mexican
taxes, I’ll receive money from the government.

    17. Please arrange it so that the Mexican Government pays $4,500.00
to
help me buy a new car.

    18. Oh yes, I almost forgot, please enroll me free into the Mexican
Social Security program so that I’ll get a monthly income in
retirement.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these
things
for all of his people who walk over to the U.S. from Mexico.
    I am
 sure that the
President of Mexico won’t mind returning the favor if you ask him
nicely.

Do you see how stupid this looks when you put it in writing????

    Logic is dead.

    Excellence is punished.

    Mediocrity is rewarded.

And dependency is to be revered.

    This is present day America.

When they rob the taxpayer they get re-elected.

  • bondaford

These people are trying to equate immigration with illegal immigrants which is like trying to compare chicken eggs to basketballs – they are both the same general shape but that is it. They do this because it paints illegal aliens with an air of respectability and they think John Q American is too stupid to know the difference. Are they right?

    • Guff

John Q. American seems to get dumber by the day.

Here is how comfortable illegals are in the state of California. During my daughter graduation which was spoke in three languages the mexicans were telling the Asians to shut up and speak SPANISH because they couldn’t understand. WTF??? REMOVE THEM NOW anyone aiding and abetting these criminals needs to be in jail. NO TO AMNESTY. CLEAN OUT YOUR EARS

    • John OBrien
      • MLM

@Anja I 100% agree. @John O’Brien thank you very much! Will pass this around. The numbers certainly don’t reflect my values.

    • Anja J

the very fact that her graduation had to be done in multiple languages shows what problems we WILL have once amnesty passes, because the illegals will NOT learn english, we will make the problems in Canada with their dual language look like kindergarten with the multiple languages we will have in this country, because once the mexicans refuse to learn english, then so will just about everyone else who immigrates here, legally or illegally

    • Stop Treason

The Asian indian and chinese are the biggest thugs and job thieves on the planet! They are hated with passion in every country!

    • Twila Diddily Do Flanders

illegals- in broken English- are telling American Citizens to learn spanish and laughing about it. They have NO respect for Our Country, Culture, language, and American citizens. They prove it daily. They are getting away with thousands of murders, Millions of fraud related crimes, rape, harassment, threat, theft, etc. Americans want them out! Permanently!

      • MLM

100% agree with you Twila the arrogance is astounding. I live in California. There was a foster freeze in my town I had been going to for over 40 years. Mexican bought it I guess a few years ago. They refuse to serve whites. Our foster freeze that has been in our town since I’ve been born, has been a tradition in my family forever won’t serve me. We’ve sold everything patiently waiting.

  • Twila Diddily Do Flanders

Obama has long overdone his lawlessness and corruption. Americans are tired of it and Our Reps had better get serious with getting him out, NOW! And the lawlessness of any others who think fighting for 30+million illegal immigrants to stay in our country is okay. It is NOT and over 60% of the American people want our current immigration laws upheld to their fullest and the abuse of anchor baby citizenship stopped.

  • Twila Diddily Do Flanders

Americans do NOT want any immigration reform! And we want our Marine out of the Mexican prison he’s been stuck in for months. NO to 30+million illegals!

    • Jonas

So, what do we do with the problem? Just let it be? And what’s your proof that we don’t want any immigration reform?

      • Floridastorm

It has nothing to do with what the people want, although most American citizens do not want illegals in this country, period. It has everything to do with the law of the land. The administration and prior administrations have not been following the law, which is illegal in itself. If we have not been enforcing the current law then what will any new law mean? When you don’t enforce a law just pass a new one that will not be enforced. Sounds like what the meaning of insanity is.

        • Jonas

Yes, it has everything to do with the law of the land and unfortunately that law is not being enforced. When a law is not being enforced it needs to be examine and find out the loopholes or faults in it, if there is any, and correct it through reformation. That has been the norm in the crafting of any law and it not something that is new.

          • Nunya Bidnezz

Eisenhower deported thousands of illegals with the single stroke of a pen.

            This is very simple actually.

States need to have their right to question the immigration status of a person seeking taxpayer funded services respected and acknowledged. It is no different if a citizen found out someone was illegal and reported it. It is no different if a landlord required proof of citizenship from rentals so that he would be in compliance with the law and not harbor illegal aliens. If corporations are now people, why can’t a state government question a person applying for jobs/services and report them????

Then the federal government has to be willing and able to deport said individuals once the state did its duty as a federal citizen and reported a crime. This because the federal government has the sole responsibility to enforce immigration law. States cannot enforce it.

Once states start reporting in, on who is illegal and who isn’t, the government must increase the number of beds/cots at its detention centers and increase the number of judges and courts to handle the backlog of immigration hearings. It is the lack of beds and the lack of judges and courts that limits the numbers of deportations to what they are yearly. So just expedite these individuals out of here by throwing more money and manpower into the process and let’s get this going already.

The Mexicans actually have a train called “The Beast” that they use to ride up here by the hundreds/thousands on. We need to have a train going South that can transport 10 times as many people, and then blow their train off the tracks.

          • Jonas

Simple? 12+ million illegals accumulated from past administrations through decades a simple one? You’re kidding me.

          • Nunya Bidnezz

Jonas, according to the illegal alien supporters, we are already doing too good of a job. We need to ramp it up. That’s all. Interior deportations are the jackpot. The way you ramp it up is by increasing the number of judges/courts/beds/cots. Then we can go beyond the 300K-400K yearly limit. We should be doing a MINIMUM of 1 million deportations a year, and that’s just for starters. This is not inhuman. Deport the whole family. leave no child behind. It takes a Mexican village to raise a Mexican child. I never saw a starving illegal alien, have you?

          • Jonas

I wish it’s that easy. I wish what you’re saying has some sense to it. Unfortunately, the reality is far, so far from what you’re talkin’ ’bout my friend.
Just because I happen to disagree with whiners and bellyacher here I’m already supporting illegal immigration? I don’t think that’s fair. I, too, want to solve the problem but unlike the rest of you I know it cannot be resolved crying like a baby.

      • Don Hardy

What we do is prevent illegals from getting anything: jobs, benefits and no automatic citizenship for their anchor babies.
I don’t feel we owe then anything!

        • Jonas

Again, what you said is supposed to be happening under our current system/laws but it is not. So we go back to the original question, what do we do with the problem?

          • Nunya Bidnezz

Doing nothing is amnesty by default. Therefore deportations have to ramp up and jobs services need to be fazed out. Use E Verify if you are a business owner. It is free and 99.9989% accurate. We don’t have forever. They intend to get citizenship through their anchors (who legally are not actually citizens but treated as such) and overpopulate this country, overwhelm our political process through sheer voting numbers, put their people into elected political positions, and vote for their own selfish self interests. They will also bring in the rest of their families from over the border and overseas because as tax payers the money they send out of the country will be cut off and sent to Treasury instead. So another 30 to 40 million will have to come here. And then they intend to keep fornicating and overpopulating some more.

          • Jonas

I wish the problem is that easy to resolve as you stated above but unfortunately it is not. We have e-verify and the problem remains. We can enumerate the alleged crimes of illegals ad infinitum but nothing will change until we act and do something, really something concrete to solve the problem.

          • tgra

            See my reply above.

          • Twila Diddily Do Flanders

The only reason our immigration laws are broken is because our government doesn’t uphold them and illegals ignore them. Uphold our current laws to their fullest, stop anchor baby citizenship, ban any assistance for the illegal and they will self deport. Just like they were doing in AZ before Holder and obama sued them for upholding our laws.

          • Jonas

If gov’t doesn’t uphold our laws and illegal ignores them, then it is broken.

          • tgra

The government must be compelled to enforce immigration laws. If NumbersUSA and F.A.I.R. had just 10 million active members, this could happen. Look at the power the National Rifle Association has with something like half of that. But people have to join these organizations to have any real impact. Do it. No money required, just some simple action.

          • Jonas

I don’t think it’s that easy as you suggest. And you know why? If it is, the illegal immigration problem would have been solved a long time ago.

          • Twila Diddily Do Flanders

It is fixed IF govt upholds our current immigration laws to their fullest. Then the illegal will be forced to get out and stay out. Just that simple.

          • Jonas

IF gov’t upholds the laws. But that is the problem. The government admits we have a broken system/law. It cannot be enforce because it’s broken. The Senate already approved a bill addressing the problem but Congress thought otherwise. So, this impasse. See, it is not really that simple.

      • Adam Kos

Because its idiotic to flood entry level job markets, already suffering from high unemployment, with illegal immigrants that american taxpayers have to support?
        Kind of obvious, isn’t it?
What do we do with the problem? Easy. Deny jobs, apartments, and free health care and education to illegals. Deport illegals giving birth in this country and revise the 14th amendment to reflect the realities of the current time. 200 years ago there was nothing wrong with burning coal. Now there is. Things change.

        • Jonas

Again, what you are saying is supposed to happen but it’s not being done. So, we go back to the original question, what do we do with the problem?

      • Peter

Here is an idea. What about we stop the freebies? For example, enforce E-Verify, no S8 housing, no free K12 education, no free emergency room, no healthy families for pregnant women, no Sanctuary cities, no driver’s license. Do this and they will go away. If they see they can keep milking the system, they will stay.

        • Jonas

Those are supposed to happen under the present system/laws but unfortunately it doesn’t. In order for that to work it has to be supported by a very strict law where everybody would be held accountable. And we can only do that if we strengthened and amend our broken immigration law.

  • Raven

Visas are not immigration and should not be tied to illegal immigrants.

Takes 5 minutes to pick up the phone/call, leave a message, most of them have answering machines on their offices, if they don’t, then fax them or email them–DAILY, or, learn to speak spanish!

People in the US Chamber of Commerce are the same ghouls that held slaves before the civil war & I guarantee you they would have them today if they could get away with it. These are also the people that have supported flooding our country with illegal aliens to drive wages down, no matter what suffering they cause citizens. They are true globalists & have no loyalty to any country. Money is their God & making more drives their entire existence. They are a disease to humanity.

  • Don Hardy

There may be a shortage of H1B workers which I doubt but there are other Tech workers here that can do these jobs. The Tech industry does NOT want to hire them because they know they can hire an H1B for less wages and benefits. Everyone in the tech industries knows that this is BS. Most of the H1B shops won’t hire people here. Besides who is asking for the H1Bs. I bet it is mostly foreign companies.

  • Rand Y

What the hell is wrong with this country! Illegal immigration is a crime & supporting illegals is a felony. Why has our government allowed “Political Correctness” to trump the rule of law? I cannot believe how propaganda has taken ahold in this country! It’s truly amazing that today illegal aliens have more rights than legal immigrants & citizens. Just one example is in-state tuition for illegals while a citizen from a neighboring state must pay the higher out of state tuition! Unbelievable but true!

Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A):

A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:
•assists an illegal alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or
•encourages that illegal alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or
•knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.

  • Floridastorm

If this was not so tragic it would be funny. We have an economy that rivals that of an African country, and for the last 6.5 years all the congress, president, and the courts have done is argue about things like immigration reform or whatever you want to call it. Absolutely nothing has been even discussed regarding jobs and the millions of people who are not working or working part time only. Houses are still being lost to foreclosure and short sales. Welfare benefits and unemployment compensation have skyrocketed. Yet, nothing is being done. These bozos have plenty of time to discuss, illegal immigration, socialized medical care, and gay marriage, but not one minute to discuss and come up with a solution to our terrible economic situation. Meanwhile our national debt and deficit continue out of control. We have become the laughing stock of the world. China and Russia must have dancing in the streets until late at night. Keep up the good work on that “hope and change” BS.

Study this….we do NOT was amnesty for illegal immigrants! We want the current laws to be enforced!

  • Don Gomez

“One posits that the short supply of H-1B temporary workers negatively affects tech job creation and wage growth for American workers, even those without college degrees.” This article is misleading due to the fact that H1-B visas are only a small part of the “immigration reform” the Obama and Democrats want and want the GOP to pass. The majority of the individuals affected by comprehensive immigration reform are, for the most part, uneducated, unskilled illegal Mexican aliens who are a burden on American taxpayers with their astronomic welfare costs as well as the overcrowding of our schools due to their high birth rate.

  • MarySue5813

“Immigration Reform”? We don’t need reform. We need ENFORCEMENT! Ship all illegal aliens home NOW. ALL OF THEM! Don’t let them back in EVER! NO MORE ANCHOR BABIES!

    • Nunya Bidnezz

Mary, the only one in government that we have even a small chance of fixing the anchor bastard problem is the Supreme Court. Congress is incapable of moving on a controversial issue and reaching consensus. The President, whoever they might be, is too paranoid about public image during the campaign process to touch this. But the Supremes have never ruled, and they will. Clarifying the meaning and intent of the 14th is exactly what they are cut out for, it is the type of grave responsibility their non elected positions were created to shoulder.

Until then, we as individuals don’t need to recognize an anchor bastard as anything except for what they are, a foreign national with foreign citizenship.

  • Cheryl Cornell

Because Reagan PROMISED us that we would NEVER have another AMNESTY, they call it IMMIGRATION REFORM. You can call it a banana if you want to. My studies show that the American citizens are tired of high taxes to pay for ALL OF THESE ANCHOR BABIES!

  • Nunya Bidnezz

“H1B Visas”? We don’t need Visas. We need TRAINING. Ship all H1B Visas home NOW. ALL OF THEM! Don’t let them back in EVER! NO MORE H1B VISA SCABS!

More propaganda!! We do not need workers, we have over 20 million Americans who need jobs!! Stop the BS and start looking out for our OWN people. Anyone who supports this is a traitor to our country. Not only do these people steel our jobs, they use up our resources and tax dollars. These groups are promoting something that only helps businesses pay less for workers, gets new voters and helps foreigners.

  • fred alyeska

In Feb 2014 the Center for Immigration Studies found that 10 million Americans with degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics are not working in those fields. We do not need more H1-B Visas issued to foreign nationals and their spouses so they can work in the USA…..we need to hire and train our own legal citizens! We have 20 million illegal foreign nationals, of which 7.7 million are now taking job opportunities away from our legal citizens, in this nation. Further, since May 2014 near McAllen, TX border crossing have accelerated to where in one night 1,400 illegals were caught. The bottom line is we do not need immigration reform……we need our immigration laws on the books enforced! Mr Obama, his administration, demos and RINOs in the Senate and House need to open their eyes that by promises of lack deportations, amnesty and a pathway to citizenship only fuels illegal migration into this nation. No Immigration Reform, No Amnesty & No Pathway to Citizenship if you break our immigration laws……enough is enough!

    • MilesMonroe

How is a women’s studies degree and 100k in student loan debt going to help a tech startup? That’s what we’re turning out in our colleges these days.

60,000 kids crossing the border illegally. 324,000 kids born to illegals last year. And americans will pay $10,000 each JUST for education, EACH YEAR. Do the math. This is retarded.

    • Nunya Bidnezz

We must PRAY on this. Barack Obama and Co. are seeing that these kids invading are cared for, but it is not clear if they have actually decided to let them stay in the country. We are being invaded by an INFANTry. Our enemies are using their KIDS against us. Call out to God.

      • Chris Carns

Nunya Who the he!! lied to you and said the O-Failure was taking care of anything? They (the Federal Government) has been dumping these kids off at Bus Stations in AZ and leaving them there. STOP drinking the Kool-aid, Coco-Jesus he is not.

        • Nunya Bidnezz

Chris Carns, actually you are wrong. Some of the kids are being sent to their illegal parents living in the States. The others have to be cared for under present interpretation of the law. No one is dumping kids in Arizona. Your stupid rhetoric is what makes the illegal alien lobby stronger, jackass.

          • Disgusted

I live in Arizona and, yes, the Feds are busing 100’s of these kids & some adults to the Greyhound stations in Tucson in Phoenix. They do not do anything for them once they unload the buses. The Hispanic communities in the cities and the other liberal morons are taking these people into their homes, helping them locate their equally illegal families & friends already in the U.S. and paying their bus/air fares to reunite them with those families (and friends). When these criminals are released at the bus stations, ICE supposedly gives them a court date to reappear for disposition hearing on whether they will be deported or given asylum, but by then these people have dropped out of sight, to mingle in with the quarter of the population that shares their criminal status.

SmartyPants, not only is the number right, but they even added projections for the future. 130K of these invading kids are expected to arrive this year. How they know it will be around 130K is a very telling question and that part was left out.

        Send them all back.

    • icemilkcoffee

Since our birth rate has been below replacement rate since the early 1970’s every year except 2007 and 2008, more babies and youths coming in is a good and wonderful thing. In fact we need lots more, in order to get back to replacement rate.

      • Adam Kos

It isn’t that simple. The people who can’t afford to take care of their kids are the ones having them. DIviding society into those that have money and those that make babies is a dubious social experiment.
And we don’t need the population to continue to rise; technology has eliminated the requirement for people to work in manufacturing or agriculture. Population should float based on the economy. In good times people have babies, in bad times not so much.

  • James

Let’s talk about basic economics, supply and demand. Labor is a commodity like anything else…when there is a low supply and a high demand for ANY commodity the price of that commodity rises. Wage growth for STEM workers has been very flat for many years. If there was really such a desperate need for more STEM workers to be imported then wages should be through the roof. This is not the case.
Do not believe the lies – there is NO shortage of American STEM workers. Companies want indentured servants that cannot leave their sponsor company. They don’t want to have to treat workers like humans with decent job conditions, normal working hours, and reasonable wages…THIS is why they want more H1B visas.

    • Nunya Bidnezz

Lets go even deeper. Maybe wages demanded by Americans ARE too high. Maybe wages are needed to be high to keep ahead of taxes, the cost of a home, and the cost of paying back that expensive college education. As a long term solution, beyond just training our people in the short term to take the place of the H1B Visa scab workers, we need to get these other costs down so that what defines a living wage is not so astronomically high.

    • Sharon Tomalavage

Exactly!! I’m a conservative republican, but I saw through this canard in a heartbeat!! On one side you have liberals/socialists/Marxists who could care LESS about these illegals as all they see are VOTES, on the Right, you either have spineless politicians who will say Anything to get elected, then side with the big corporations instead of the small town folks who put them there. Either way, we voters can’t win!!! No one that I know is against hard working folks no matter Where they are from, but what they don’t want are folks who think the rules Don’t or shouldn’t apply to them and this includes illegals who may come out of Love (as Jeb would say), but they are lawbreakers just the same!!! We have an immigration process for a REASON Jeb, and it isn’t to be ignored!!!

      • Gayhart Goddard

they are what they are cause the reserve bank and world bank own this country napoleon said when goerment is dependent for money upon banker’s they and not goerment leader’s control the nation

        • Sharon Tomalavage

Another astute statement. I was just making an observation that (just as with the cause of the Civil War being fought supposedly because of the North’s objection to slavery–Untrue), the North didn’t care about the indecency of owning another human being, it was about the economic superiority of the South, both sides had their reasons for what they did and BOTH were guilty of less than “righteous” purpose. It is the same NOW, times haven’t changed very much as both parties have their own selfish reasons for taking the positions they do and it is NOT concern for their fellow man!!!

          • Sharon Tomalavage

My final observation is that the Left -democrats want control so the best way to achieve this is through dependency-on government (the nanny state) thereby ensuring the votes perpetuating this control are there. The republicans look to money (as they see this as their means of control ) and big business/banks are the channels for their dominance. Again, BOTH sides have little use for man’s inequality or injustice, only their own monopoly on power (whether from the Left or Right).

    • Peter

      Correct!

    • Sane Indn

Very sensible statement. Hence the suggestion in the article to fix the issue for “legal” immigrants (cut them loose from being dependent on the sponsored companies) and stop immigration once and for all. That should fix one portion of immigration reform permanently.

      • James

I don’t necessarily disagree with the notion of cutting H1B workers loose from the tether to a corporate sponsor, but that alone will not solve the problems created by massive importation of labor that is not necessary. By raising the amount of labor on the market the price of that labor (wages) still drops. Companies should have to pay a LARGE fee over and above wages if they want to import labor. Those fees should go towards training of American workers to eventually eliminate any actual need that may exist (though I don’t think any need really does exist). I suspect once a large fee is required to hire foreign workers AND once the company sponsorship tether is severed that companies will suddenly be able to find all the labor they need right here in America.

        • Sane Indn

I see your point James, but only if big corporations will let go of their profits so easily. One way to turn things around is to use the resources we have as a nation (immigrants who are science and math majors) and use them to revamp our school curriculum. That should produce competent US math and science graduates who can compete on a global scale. Currently, our children are rated 130th or 140th in that ranking – way below China and India.

  • Stop Treason

ZERO ImmigRATion until Unemployment is ZERO!

    • Sane Indn

That is a sensible suggestion. But it has to be on a go forward basis. If it is retroactive – then how long should it be reversed? – 100, 200, 400 years – that will make all of us illegals won’t it?

And there are people with lives stuck in the permanent residency application. Additionally, there are millions of undocumented people. What about them? – please stick to a sensible solution (NOT deportation or shooting or whatever).

  • Stop Treason

Over 35 Million Americans are Unemployed and Millions more are Underemployed!
ImmigRATion is Process by the Racist Elite (All the Tech CEO’s and Politicians) to make sure that the Poor Americans (Specially Black Americans) NEVER EVER get to the Middle Class!

There it is! The 500 lb pink elephant in the middle of the living room no one wants to talk about! THANK YOU

    • Chris J. Moore

Lets talk about your great great grandparents, Are they were “Euro-Trash” or Asian Indians???? Because they came from somewhere too!!!!!!

      Trash!!!!!

  • Bill Smith

Illegals should be deported or shot, their choice. Give them 30 days to go home!

    • Nunya Bidnezz

You may or may not be right, but shooting them extra-judicially might give them more public sympathy and political influence. We don’t need that. What we need is the public angry at THEM, not US.

    • Barbara Steffek

Please, let’s stick to deported not shot.

    • Jonas

Deported or shot? Is that what America is all about? Give them 30 days to go home? Gosh, I would give them 100 days to go home if it will make them go home. The reality is, whether it’s 30 days or 30,000 days, nobody is going home. And the sad truth is, we all know that is the reality and some of us continue to be blind about it. Sad.

      • Gayhart Goddard

your right jonas pathetic gopand dem not ball’s this is a sad country

    • Chris J. Moore

Ok, but When are you going???

    • Sane Indn

Oh wow Bill. Congratulations – you are one of those almost extinct species! I see some of your friends in the chain as well. Please as a favor, be extinct soon or leave US if you are so intolerant – and of course invite your friends along!

I keep hearing about Tech trained American Citizens without jobs, and that they have been laid off and replaced by H1-B students for so much smaller salaries.

    WHAT IS INSANITY?

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Congress has passed 7 amnesties for illegal aliens, starting in 1986.

    1. Immigration and Reform Control Act (IRCA), 1986: A blanket amnesty for some 2.7 million illegal aliens
    2. Section 245(i) Amnesty, 1994: A temporary rolling amnesty for 578,000 illegal aliens
    3. Section 245(i) Extension Amnesty, 1997: An extension of the rolling amnesty created in 1994
    4. Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA) Amnesty, 1997: An amnesty for close to one million illegal aliens from Central America
    5. Haitian Refugee Immigration Fairness Act Amnesty (HRIFA), 1998: An amnesty for 125,000 illegal aliens from Haiti
    6. Late Amnesty, 2000: An amnesty for some illegal aliens who claim they should have been amnestied under the 1986 IRCA amnesty, an estimated 400,000 illegal aliens
    7. LIFE Act Amnesty, 2000: A reinstatement of the rolling Section 245(i) amnesty, an estimated 900,000 illegal aliens.

Help fight ANOTHER Amnesty! JOIN Numbersusa! It’s free.

    • icemilkcoffee

And guess what, after all these amnesties, the sky didn’t fall. America was founded by immigrants, and continues to be a magnet for immigrants. That is good and wonderful thing.

      • Linda

NO. NOT when they come illegally. Please LEARN THE DIFFERENCE.

        • Sane Indn

Do you mean to say that our forefathers were invited and offered all the land by native indians?! Think about what you just said.

  • MilesMonroe

No problem, explain to me how the children that are supposedly streaming across the border are suddenly going to solve the H1B problem and I’m with you. Until then, let’s do what the president of Mexico said when asked by Wolf Blitzer if they allow Guatemalan’s to stay in Mexico when the enter illegally, “Oh no, we send them back.”

  • Matthew Nelson

If someone has something to offer the country in the area of expertise, then some kind of allowance could be made, however when people are coming over the border with nothing to offer except to strain our services, then immigration reform of this form only causes harm to our country and economy.

  • Matthew Nelson

I rally get a kick how these groups mix up the meaning of immigrants. Immigrants come through the immigration system. Illegal aliens do not, they take the law into their own hands, making them trespassers. Committing a crime does not translate into immigration. This would be like calling a trespasser in your house an guest. Our government has really lost focus on whom they represent.

  • Matthew Nelson

Are these immigration advocate groups aka illegal alien advocate groups proposing that all these illegal aliens crossing the border in Arizona and Texas have Phd’s in science??????

    • Sane Indn

FYI – undocumented aliens are part of the immigration reform proposal. Another group within this comprehensive reform are those who are waiting for years in the permanent residency pipeline (legal immigrants in skilled category) – and yes, they are mostly math and science majors – either >5 years of work ex, holds science masters or PhDs.

  • john

I say let the illegals stay and lets deport all the liberal journalists and right-wing capitalists who continue to feed us propaganda like this!

    • Nunya Bidnezz

      no

  • Lavada Echa

Let us protest in the streets and stop paying taxes until all the illegals are kicked out

  • Lavada Echa

Send all the illegals back. Now.

  • Lavada Echa

America is on the path to becoming a third world country, with millions of useless illegal aliens

  • Rocky Lilly

any pregnant illegal can walk across the border, have her kid for free, because she has no intention of paying for it, at a US hospital, and go home again, with her anchor baby to use later to get herself and a dozen other family members into the USA as citizens. Meanwhile, we ignore our vets, who fot, died, lost limbs etc to save the SOVEREIGNTY of our country and it’s borders!

    • icemilkcoffee

That ‘anchor baby’ would have to turn 21 before he could petition for his mother. And his mother would have to wait 5 years, and then pay $680 to become a citizen, before she could petition for her other family members

  • Rocky Lilly

Tell Berrack insane Obama no amnesty

  • icemilkcoffee

H1B is fine in theory. But in practice there are too many software and engineering based H1Bs. Let’s open other fields up too- like law and medicine. And finance and management too. No reason why we can’t outsource the CEOs jobs.

    • Sane Indn

Don’t worry, they are. There are so many C level immigrants – Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Indra (Pepsi), Pandit (fmr CEO Citibank)….to name a few. There are more and yes they all came on an immigrant visa. Stop focusing on the negatives and start thinking about how this can benefit our society – perhaps reform education system using the immigrant resources. For e.g. Science and Math in our schools is down the drain – we have immigrants who are strong in those areas – leverage that to radically improve the training for our next generation.

      • EmpressL

They should have the mental capacity to speak English first cause they’re dragging down our scores!

From 2000 to 2010, the number of people living in the U.S. who speak English “less than very well” increased by 3.9 million. In 21 states, the limited-English population grew by more than 25% over the last decade, and during that same time period “61 counties crossed the threshold of having a population of more than 5% limited-English speakers,” according to the Census.
        http://www.governing.com/topics/public-workforce/gov-how-language-fits-into-the-immigration-issue.html

Report by the Migration Policy Institute, 57% of limited English proficient adolescents nationwide are U.S. born. Up to 27 % of all LEP adolescents are members of the 2nd generation, and 30% are 3rd generation (which means they’re getting dumber), meaning that many students educated exclusively in U.S. still can’t speak English fluently.

        http://www.proenglish.org/projects/english-a-immigration.html#sthash.zNiYJWiF.dpuf

This is why we need to be a BIT more selective!

        • Sane Indn

First of all WHAT has this got to do with immigrants becoming CEOs in our country. You can throw all the census you want. But I certainly don’t believe they made CEO in “our” country without being able to speak english. If not anything, it would have been tougher challenge for them to get to that post.

Wake up – you want another example of english proficiency – look at who are winning the spelling bee contests these days.

And to your point – speaking your mother tongue is no big deal – even the homeless in our nation speaks english. And I have seen so called english speakers, who can’t write even a word properly. So please stop generalizing and throwing weak-at-best statistics for argument sake and start looking into ways to improve things – NOT just block any new idea that comes forward (a sure sign of insecurity).

          • EmpressL

Opinions are weak. That’s what you give when you don’t have facts.

There is a difference between immigration and sneaking into a country unauthorized. There are 8,300,000 citizens of other countries here in the US squandering US domestic jobs.
            http://www.pewhispanic.org/2009/04/14/a-portrait-of-unauthorized-immigrants-in-the-united-states/

Homeland Security Sub Committee on Border and Maritime Security. 5.5 million, entered legally with visas and then never left
            http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/05/10/20100510illegal-immigrants-overstay.html#ixzz2MfqTZkTe

We obviously don’t need to add to the VISA PROBLEM but that’s what the “reform” bill does.

          • Sane Indn

True, we don’t have to add to the visa problem. Agreed 100%. However, we cannot ignore the current issue at hand either. And we are not a nation like 1940s Germany.

Above all, just doing nothing is NOT a solution. So while opposing the hurtful aspects of immigration reform is welcome, it is very important for us as a nation to acknowledge that this is an issue and we NEED to find a “workable” and “humane” solution to the issue – and fix it once and for all. Even if that means – no more immigration in future.

But doing nothing is not a solution; Mass deportation is a fine pie in the sky, again not a solution.

          • EmpressL

Deportation is what’s used in EVERY OTHER COUNTRY with borders including Mexico. It would be far cheaper to deport them than to support them and their offspring and the 5 other family members they will bring over.

It only costs $12,500 to deport on average. It costs $156,000 for 13 years of public school for 1 of their many children. Because of their low incomes they will never contribute enough property tax to pay for education especially when they are collecting, WIC, SNAP, TANF, Welfare, Disability, Medicaid and receiving child and income credits. They will get back more than they paid in taxes.

  • Peter

Shortage? They are getting rid of American engineers and making them train the “best and the brightest” from India and China, in exchange for severance pay! I’ve seen that with my own eyes.

  • Peter

There is a shortage of people with brains in DC too. What should we do?

  • icemilkcoffee

The biggest problem facing America now, is the long term aging of our population. We need more kids and young people to to bolster our declining birth rate. Don’t listen to the jokers. We need more immigrants any which way we could get them. Especially young ones.

    • EmpressL

The majority of immigrants suck up 3-7 TIMES in Social Services and programs than they contribute in revenue. Adding a bunch of people to Welfare will NOT help Social Security it will destroy it!

8,000,000 illegal aliens paid $7 billion in FICA taxes which divided by 8,000,000 = $975 a year for Medicare and SS. They will be getting back that much EVERY MONTH when they retire with Supplemental Income which comes right out of the pockets of the tax payer.
