People are calling it one of the biggest music events of all time. Many are arguing that its lineup is the best ever assembled.

We’re talking about the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief, the all-star fundraiser set for Dec. 12 (obviously) Thursday at Madison Square Garden in New York. The concert has become a true international sensation, which is being broadcast to millions around the globe.

We’ll be covering the event live throughout the night. Please follow at http://twitter.com/jimthecritic, www.facebook.com/jim.bayareanews and www.mercurynews.com/music.

Here’s our viewer’s guide to tonight’s event:

THE BASICS

What: 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief

Benefits: The Robin Hood Relief Fund

When: The show starts promptly at 4:30 p.m. PST, and expected run until roughly 9 p.m. PST

Where: Madison Square Garden, New York

Information: www.121212concert.org, www.robinhood.org/rhsandy

PERFORMERS

The incredible all-star cast includes Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Paul McCartney (fronting Nirvana!), the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters and the Who.

ORDER OF APPEARANCE

All that we know — or think we know — is that Springsteen will open the concert and McCartney will close it, most likely with an all-star cast joining in on some Beatles classic. Other than that, your guess is as good as ours.

TWO EXPECTED HIGHLIGHTS

1. About that McCartney business — yes, he is expected to front a Nirvana “reunion,” featuring the surviving members of that famed grunge band.

2. Vedder will reportedly join Waters on Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb.”

WAYS TO DONATE

Text “ROBINHOOD” to 50555 to donate $10. Other ways to give to this worthy cause can be found at www.121212concert.org/.
