Has Apple given you a sweet tooth?

You’ve heard of eye candy, arm candy and ear candy.

How about most-downloaded-free-iPhone-app candy?

This delicious news just in: Apple’s winner of the most popular (free) iPhone app of 2013 was Candy Crush Saga.

Just in time for the sugarplum fairies.

If you’ve been living on the dark and sour side of the Moon, you probably haven’t had the pleasure of playing this smash hit game. But in the past 12 months, it has entertained millions of your fellow iPhone users while they wait  in the line at Starbucks or ride the bus home.

Download it, as I did,  and you’ll be hooked in no time. With all those bright colors glistening on your phone’s screen, with jelly beans and gumdrops slipping and sliding at your fingertips, you’ll be amazed by how easily you can be sucked into a game that a kindergartner could master. Actually, a smart kindergartner would probably beat you at Candy Crush Saga.

Launched in November 2012,  the app is ready for your perusal on both the Apple and Android platforms.  So join the more than 500 million downloaders who have played the game more than 150 billion times, according to app developer King, and you’ll wonder how you ever survived daily life without Saga in your hand.

And in case you’re wondering, here are the top free iPhone apps for the year:

1 Candy Crush Saga, King.com Limited

2 YouTube, Google, Inc.

3 Temple Run 2, Imangi Studios, LLC

4 Vine, Vine Labs, Inc.

5 Google Maps, Google, Inc.

6 Snapchat, Snapchat, Inc.

7 Instagram, Instagram, Inc.

8 Facebook, Facebook, Inc.

9 Pandora Radio, Pandora Media, Inc.

10 Despicable Me: Minion Rush, Gameloft

Now get out there and play. Just don’t tell your dentist.
