Intel pushing Web access for African women and girls

Santa Clara chipmaker Intel announced an initiative Monday to help 5 million African women and girls gain access to the Internet.

The initiative – dubbed She Will Connect – will work with governmental and private organizations to expand the digital skills of African females. The action comes on the heels of a report Intel issued earlier this year, which called for doubling the number of women and girls online in developing countries.

Part of the initiative will involve use of online games, the company said. It noted in a press release that over the past decade it has invested more than $1 billion and its employees have volunteered nearly 3 million hours  to improve education in foreign countries.

Is this a lopsided, politically-correct initiative, or is there a “He Will Connect” program too?
