Facebook will join Twitter this week in offering real-time feedback on major network television shows as both social media companies battle to translate members’ preferences and comments into advertising dollars.
Twitter on Monday is expected to partner with Nielsen to offer the “Nielsen Twitter TV Rating” that will measure how many Twitter users discussed — and viewed — a particular TV show, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
Then Facebook will offer its own reports this week to ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS and a few select partners on the shows that Facebook users comment on, “like” or “share.”
Facebook told the Journal that the data will be collected anonymously and only will be shown in aggregate to protect users’ privacy. Twitter did not comment.
