Apple iPhone ad inspires favorite commercial contest

As I was writing my column about my obsession with the piano music in Apple’s latest iPhone ads, it struck me that the tech industry has a long history of backing their commercials with impressive soundtracks.

Impressive, of course, can mean a lot of things. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to hold a little contest in which you, dear readers, vote on your favorite music from a tech commerical. (Register your vote by using the commenting section below.)

I’m going to post a few old favorites here, but I’m sure there are tons of others, including others you like better than any of these. Feel free to honor those choices with a write-in vote. And if you can, include a URL where we can see what you’re talking about.

Now, without further ado, I’ll kick off the nominations with the “Music Everyday” ad from Apple that got this whole thing rolling.

Here’s the second in the iPhone set, called “Photos Everyday.”

And FaceTime everyday:

Now on to some of the other contenders, at least those I mentioned in my column and a few others.

First, there was Intel’s disco phase, which featured “Boogie Fever:”

Which evolved into a Blue Man Group phase, which kept with very funny-looking people and gave us something of a techno-pop soundtrack.

And who could forget Hewlett-Packard going all classical on us to help sell its Touchsmart PC?

Or Cisco turning to who, exactly? Yes, The Who to provide a soundtrack for its “Human Network” campaign. Baba O’Riley anyone?

Google went all sweetie-pie at the 2010 Super Bowl moving a touching Web ad to the medium-sized screen so viewers could take it in during the big game. The piano is a bit like the current Apple ads, no?

And for those of you who simply can’t get enough Apple ads, here are a couple through the years:

Remember Feist and the iPod?

Or Yael Naim and the Macbook Air (get ready to have this stuck in your head for the rest of the day).

OK, I’ve tortured you enough with these high-tech come ons. Now it’s time to vote. Pick a winner.

I liked the HP ads for cameras/printers using the Kinks Picture Book.

If I filter out the voices, FaceTime every day is my favorite.
