Twitter takes aim at $1 billion a year in ad revenue by 2014 – eMarketer

Twitter’s revenue could approach $1 billion next year, according to eMarketer, which is revising its estimate for the social media company based on increasing mobile revenue.

The online advertising and market research company puts Twitter’s 2013 global ad revenues at $582.8 million, and has them hitting close to $1 billion in 2014.

By 2015, eMarketer said, Twitter should be raking in $1.33 billion worldwide, with a lot of that growth coming from ads on mobile devices.

Twitter will earn $308.9 million from mobile ad revenue this year; $551 million next year and $811.4 million in 2015, eMarketer predicted.

Most of that – 83 percent this year – will come from U.S. advertisers. By 2015, the worldwide share will increase to 24 percent and the U.S. share will drop to 76 percent, eMarketer said.

“Twitter has ultimately benefited from the increased focus on mobile by competitors like Google and Facebook, which have both expanded their own mobile ad offerings and worked to convince advertisers to shift dollars to mobile devices,” eMarketer said.
