Hail to the hoodie: Zuckerberg tops Glassdoor CEO survey

Well, he’s well-Liked, at least by his employees: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg is No. 1 on this year’s Glassdoor list of 50 highest-ranking CEOs.

Apple CEO Tim Cook held the top spot in 2012 but fell to No. 18 this year. Other Silicon Valley tech CEOs in the top 50:

• Nvidia’s Jen Hsun-Huang (15)
• Intel’s Paul Otellini  (21)
• NetApp’s Tom Georgens (22)
• Intuit’s Brad Smith  (23)

But back to Facebook, which as GMSV mentioned in December was voted the top workplace in another Glassdoor survey. One employee of the Menlo Park social-networking company said it is “an open community from Zuck on down. Mutual trust companywide and sense of community and drive, instilled by our CEO, who we all truly respect,” according to a press release by Glassdoor today. Zuck got a 99 percent approval rating, although it’s worth noting he barely beat out the co-CEOs of software company SAP, who also got 99 percent ratings.

Glassdoor noted that there was only one woman in the top 50 this year, Victoria’s Secret CEO Sharen Turney. Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman was No. 24 last year. The other female CEO of a big valley company, Yahoo, did not make the top 50. Marissa Mayer, who has been chief executive since July, early on won kudos for instituting free meals at the Sunnyvale company, and giving employees new smartphones. But she has been criticized lately — including by other valley companies — for other decisions, such as banning telecommuting.

The survey is based on more than 500,000 reviews submitted by company employees that Glassdoor received from February 25, 2012 to February 24, 2013.
