Is your Tesla Model S feeling unwanted? There's an app for that!

This just in from Tesla, the electric-car industry’s Great Green Hope: new free mobile apps for the care and feeding of your Model S.

Now available on  iTunes and Google Play, the tools allow Model S owners, when caught in the grips of  extreme ennui, to monitor the battery-charging progress in their $57,400 sedan.

But that’s just the beginning, writes George Blankenship, Tesla’s Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Ownership Experience in a blog post. He says the apps also provide:

the ability to stop or start charging, and remote heating or cooling of the cabin (a major plus in terms of conserving battery power). Other handy features include remote locking and unlocking of the vehicle, the ability to honk the horn and flash the lights—when the car is parked—and control of the Model S’ panoramic sunroof.

Blankenship and Tesla clearly pride themselves on giving the Model S the “ability to add functionality and make changes to the vehicle via remote software updates.”

To that end, Tesla not only tweaked a troublesome door handle after customers complained, but also improved the vehicle’s on-board touchscreen. And then came the iPhone and Android apps:

Both are now available for download! With these apps installed on your smartphone you can interact with your Model S to monitor charging, pre-condition your car on very hot or cold days, and even honk the horn to find your Model S in a crowded parking lot. Install the app and let the fun begin!

Bet you can’t wait to watch that battery sloooooowly come up to full charge.
