The pink mustache is back: Lyft can operate

There was good news Wednesday for Lyft, the ride sharing service best known for the goofy pink handlebar mustaches on all of the cars: it’s reached a deal with the California Public Utilities Commission and can ride again.

“This agreement supports the continued legal operation of Lyft and sets a precedent for the upcoming rulemaking process,” wrote Lyft on its blog. “This agreement would not have been possible without the outpouring of support from the community. Thank you for your thousands of emails and phone calls — they had an impact.”

Ride sharing companies like Lyft, Uber and Sidecar have come under increased regulatory scrutiny of late over a thicket of safety, tax and labor rules.

There are no agreements at this point with Uber or Sidecar.

Lyft also announced that its launching its service in Los Angeles Thursday, beginning with a Mustache Parade.  Lyft will begin operations in Santa Monica, Venice and West LA.
