China’s largest online shopping site is offering American processed food and seafood to the world’s largest online market.
The move comes as Chinese consumers increasingly worry about food safety.
Tmall, in a special promotion involving the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is pushing American-made food products.
Tmall is using the promotion to help build interest in its pre-sale channel,yushou.tmall.com, which allows consumers to put down deposits on selected items for later delivery, according to a post on Alizila, a blog of the e-commerce giant Alibaba Group. Tmall.com is an independent business under the Alibaba Group.
Recent surveys reveal that the No. 1 issue of Chinese consumers is a fear about product and food safety.
