One billion served: 'Gangam Style' hits new YouTube milestone

At this point, if you haven’t seen the music video for “Gangam Style” there’s a good chance that you’ve been living in a cave.

Google announced today that the video, by Korean pop artist Psy, has hit 1 billion views. That’s a new record for a YouTube video.

“Gangam Style” has started to leave the second place video, “Baby” by Justin Bieber, in the dust. Even though it  passed “Baby” less than a month ago, “Gangam Style” already has a nearly 200 million view lead on Bieber’s video — and that appears to be growing rapidly.

According to YouTube’s data, “Baby” has taken nearly three years to accumulate its 813 million views. By contrast, “Gangam Style” only started racking up views on July 15 — of this year!
