Gen Y addicted to smartphones

If you’re young and addicted to your smartphone, you’re not alone, according to a Cisco Systems study made public Wednesday.

Of 1,800 18-to-30-year-olds surveyed, more  than 40 percent would experience “withdrawal” and “feel anxious, like part of me was missing,” if they couldn’t check their smartphones constantly.

The survey, which was conducted for Cisco by InsightExpress, focused on college students and professional members of the so-called “generation Y” population. Here are some of its other findings:

Three out of four respondents used smartphones in bed.

Over a third of them used smartphones in the bathroom.

In the U.S., one out of five check their phones at least once every 10 minutes.

More than one out of four (29 percent), check their phones so often they lose count.
