Apple fanmoms and fandads go goo-goo over their fanbabies!

Well, it’s official. Apple fans have now  gone completely over the top.

As if standing in a long line for the latest iPhone and owning every single Apple product under the sun and downloading way too many iPad mini apps wasn’t  enough. Now parents are starting to name their children after Apple stuff.

BabyCenter, which describes itself as the “#1 pregnancy and parenting mobile and web destination worldwide,” has released its annual Baby Names Survey and the Top 100 Baby Names of 2012. And one of the startling discoveries here is that Apple-inspired baby names are on the march!

The moniker Apple, though still an unusual choice, rose 15 percent for girls, vaulting a whopping 585 spots. For boys, the name Mac jumped 12 percent. And parents sure like the sound of Siri: The company’s voice-enabled personal assistant climbed 5 percent on the list of girl names.

I can just hear it now: “Mac and Siri, you’re giving Mommy a headache! Go outside and play while I put Mini, Shuffle and Nano down for their nap.”

The survey is based on the names of 450,000 babies born in 2012 to moms registered on the BabyCenter website, with Aiden (now isn’t THAT a nice name for a little guy?) at the top of the boys’ list for eight years running while Sophia (ohhhh, so sweet!)  retains the lead for girls’ names for the third year in a row.

Linda Murray, BabyCenter Global Editor in Chief, said more and more parents are looking for “meaning” in their baby’s name.

Parents are looking for more substance in baby names. They want names with more significance.

And what says  “meaning” more than a slick slice  of shiny metal-and-glass that you can use to make telephone calls while playing Words With Friends at the same time!?!?
