One of the key weaknesses of smartphones is their limited battery life, which has given birth to a number of apps aimed at addressing the problem. The trouble is, some of these apps are malicious, according to software security firm Symantec.
“Breaking through the boundaries of credibility are a bunch of applications that will supposedly turn your phone screen into a solar charger,” the Mountain View company notes in a recent report.
It’s completely false, because phones aren’t equipped with solar panels, the report says. Instead, it adds, what the apps really do is steal the smartphones’ data.
