Windows 8 and Surface tablet will be available at Microsoft stores on Oct. 26

Apple might trying to steal some of Microsoft’s thunder by announcing the iPad Mini on Oct. 23. But three days later, Microsoft will release Windows 8, and its new tablet, Surface.

Microsoft just announced the details of pricing for Surface, which will start at $499. You can pre-order now. But the company also just announced that both Windows 8 and Surface will be available at Microsoft stores on Oct. 26.

In the Bay area, that means folks can grab their sleeping bags and start forming lines at the Stanford Shopping Center or Westfield Valley Fair Microsoft retail stores.
