Oracle appeals Google verdict

As expected, Oracle today filed a “notice of appeal” seeking to have a federal appeals court review its long legal battle with Google.

In May, U.S. District judge William Alsup rejected most of Oracle’s lawsuit claiming Google had misused key elements of Oracle’s Java software in Google’s smartphone operating system. That meant Oracle could only collect minor damages in the case in which Oracle had sought up to $10 billion.

So far, Oracle hasn’t spelled out its legal arguments for its appeal and it’s unclear how much longer this case will continue to rattle around in the legal system. But stay tuned.
