Facebook says over 1 billion served
We knew the giant social network was getting close to 1 billion users, but co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed it today, by posting an update on his own page. Since its IPO floundered last spring, the company has been working overtime to roll out new features, win over advertisers and convince Wall Street that it will continue to grow. But Zuckerberg and his top executives took a moment to savor the milestone on Thursday. Here is Zuck’s post:
This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.
If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.
Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.
Zuckerberg had kept a low profile in the first months after the IPO, but his appearance at a Tech Crunch conference last month sparked a mild surge in Facebook’s stock price. The stock is down today however, despite the broadcast of another recent interview on the Today show.
