Over at NBC Bay Area News, Scott McGrew reports that he recently ran into Steve Wozniak and his wife in the airport. McGrew asked Wozniak about reports that he wanted to move to Australia and become a citizen.
Not quite, said the Woz. McGrew writes:
“Stepping off an 11-hour flight, the Apple co-founder confirmed reports that he’s applied for Australian citizenship, that he had no interest in dropping his American citizenship and that he and his wife, Janet Hill, simply love New Zealand.”
Wozniak apparently wants to live in New Zealand, which is easy with Australian citizenship. He will retain his U.S. citizenship and continue to pay taxes both here and abroad. The Woz currently lives in Los Gatos. The story doesn’t explain why he wants to relocate, though having visited New Zealand back in 2000, I can attest to the fact that it’s both beautiful and super cheap. A story by Business Insider claimed it might have something to do with Australia’s broadband plans.
Just maybe, there are also shorter lines for new Apple products down there.
