Quoted: Apple, Samsung and crack

“First, your honor, I’m not smoking crack. I can promise you that.”

Bill Lee, a lawyer for Apple, in response to U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh’s crack Thursday after Apple unveiled a list of 22 more possible witnesses in its court battle with Samsung. (Each smartphone maker accuses the other of patent infringement.) Koh, who had set time limits for each side at the beginning of the trial, said, “unless you’re smoking crack, you know these witnesses aren’t going to be called.” As the Mercury News’ Howard Mintz reports, the judge has grown increasingly impatient as the trial winds down. The judge said there are about five hours of testimony left Friday, according to Mintz’s live blog yesterday, in which he noted that Samsung lawyers seemed to want to get on the record that the time limits Koh had imposed limited their ability to cross-examine witnesses.
