Quoted: Wikipedia charity chairman faces editing ban over porn fight

“The board is united in the view that this decision does not affect his role as a trustee of the charity.”

Wikimedia UK’s board, on its chairman, Ashley Van Haeften, who has been banned from contributing to or editing Wikipedia. In other words, the chairman of a charity that promotes Wikipedia to British museums and universities isn’t allowed to touch English versions of it. According to the Telegraph, a Wikipedia committee found that Van Haeften violated editing rules and mounted personal attacks on people who had concerns about pornographic material on the online encyclopedia. Van Haeften reportedly claims he was subject to homophobic harassment over bondage photos he uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Issues about explicit material on Wikipedia — which has lately been more vocal about protesting censorship — are persistent; in 2010 Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales came under fire for removing pornography.
