LSI donating free backpacks and school supplies
As a service to our loyal readers who are weary of the relentless parade of negative news offered up these days by various media outlets, those of us at SiliconBeat periodically wish to provide a bit of cheery relief.
Which brings us to this item about LSI.
The Milpitas chip-maker is in the process of distributing free backpacks and school supplies to about 12,000 underprivileged K-12 students around the world in communities where its employees live and work.
Last year, the company said it contributed more than 9,000 backpacks to primary and secondary schools in Asia, Europe and the United States. The backpacks are filled with notebooks, pens, calculators and dictionaries donated by LSI employees.
“As a U.S.-based company that operates globally, LSI understands that investment in local education is an investment in a better world,” said the company’s CEO, Abhi Talwalkar, in a prepared statement.

My name is Lauren Sarkis; I am 8th grade student at Flat Rock Middle School in Tyrone, GA. Currently, I am working on my Silver Award for Girl Scout troop 19079 in The Greater Atlanta Chapter. My project is one I am very passionate about. My goal is to collect 150 backpacks stuffed with school supplies for the children at the Atlanta Women’s Day Shelter. Since the mothers do not have a permanent place to live they register their children at the day shelter and children are allowed to attend the local schools. I am seeking donations of any kind related to backpacks and school supplies. I would be grateful for anything that you would consider to donate. The motto of the shelter is, “A Place for Hope”. I am working hard to make that motto a realistic start for these children in the beginning of their school year 2010-2011.
The shelter is a 501 c (3) non-profit organization, Tax ID # 58-1679617.
I would like to deliver the backpacks to the shelter late July 2010-2011. If you need a formal written letter from me please send me the name of the person who needs to review this request and an address.
These children dream of a bigger and better world than they get to see daily. Please help me with my Girl Scout Silver Award to make their school year a success.
Sincerely,
Lauren Sarkis

HI, I’m not sure if you all are helping with giving out free book bags for kids, this year. I am putting together a Back to School Event where we are serving a community that has low income families. I want to help off-set cost to these parents, and to also help every child to be able to go to school and not worry about the items that their parents couldn’t afford. I would love your help with putting on this project for the community.
I pray that your interest would be able to help these low income families. My contact information is as follows:

Thank you very much for offering the free backpacks to students. My church is in the lowest income county in the state of Missouri. It would be a great help to the families of our area if you could provide their children with a backpack. I am requesting 100, to distribute on July 29th, if that is possible. Thank you very much! (I am including the delivery address of our church at the bottom of the page)
