Kris can’t catch a break…
This from Kris Rowberry:
Friday was an interesting dichotomy.
It began after lunch, where I sat down with a high level Airport Official. He was kind enough to point me in the right direction, even offering to read my resume and cover letter, and give suggestions on how to improve them. When I left his office, I realized that he had basically given me a roadmap through this rough economy, and to boot he gifted me a “Garmin” to notify me where all the traffic was to avoid. Now for the flip side…as part of the massive layoffs bound to come to the City and the Airport Division, another less publicized casualty - as of June 1, 2009, there will be no internships at SJC.
None.
If you (like me) figured taking an unpaid internship in the industry you hoped to stay in was a good idea…where making contacts, obtaining high praise reference letters and gaining valuable experience was the goal, well…a landing at SJC you will not find.
The City is actually turning away free labor! Welcome to the new reality that is our economy. Pull down that lap bar a bit tighter folks – this roller coaster has yet to find its brake run.
