A glimmer of hope for our Pink Slip participants

Roopa is tapping into the outlacement service provided by her old company. Elise had another promising job interview today. And Kris has been contacted by a jet-charter company interested in seeing his resume.

“It was weird reading about myself in the paper,” says Roopa. ”But I’m feeling better now, emotionally, starting with this outplacement-services firm. They’ve exposed me to a lot of resources, like how to build my resume, prep for interviews,  strengthen my network, set up my LinkedIn account. By being in this class with 15 others in the same boat, some of them laid off after 20 years with the same company, I realize that I’m not alone. That makes me feel better about myself.”

Kris says he had a weird experience after the article came out. The guy who had fired him was now trying to connect with him through LinkedIn. Kris agonized a bit over what to do – networking can always help your job search, even if you’re networking with the guy who laid you off. But after sleeping on it, Kris decided not to link up with his former boss.

In the meantime, someone called about a position with a private-jet service company and within minutes of the call, Kris had emailed the guy his resume. He has his fingers crossed.

And Elise felt OK about the interview this morning for the office job at a collision-repair shop. The most disturbing thing, though, was seeing a steady flow of other applicants coming in for THEIR interviews after her. Still, she’s hoping to hear back soon about a job offer …

A great quote I just want to share with everyone…

Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes… your destiny. ‘Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle’.

Has Kris stayed in touch with people he knew at Bellarmine?
