Vermillion loses chief scientist
Vermillion, the Fremont company formerly known as Ciphergen Biosystems that develops medical diagnostic tests, lost its chief scientific officer March 19. Dr. Eric Fung told the company he wished to pursue “another career opportunity.” The resignation was for personal reasons, the company assures us, and was “not the results of any disagreement with the company.”
Fung, 38, joined the company in 2000 as a lead scientist in its newly formed biomarker discovery centers, and was promoted to CSO in June 2006. Prior to joining Vermillion, Fung was a Howard Hughes sponsored researcher at Stanford University.
Late last yearVermillion re-installed its previous interim chief financial officer after the current one decided not to renew his consulting agreement when it expired in November, “by mutual consent” with the company. Its stock was delisted from Nasdaq in September and now trades in the Pink Sheets, where it closed today at 59 cents down from 65 cents when they last traded on March 19.
