Phoenix Technologies closing down operations in Tel Aviv
Phoenix Technologies is closing its Tel Aviv facility and eliminating about 26 workers there as it relocates product development activities undertaken at the Israeli site to other facilities.
The move is expected to result in $500,000 in restructuring charges, including $300,000 in severance for the affected employees.
The company has been downsizing continuously since fiscal 2006, when it closed offices in Shenzhen, China; Munich, Germany; Zaltbommel, the Netherlands; Osaka, Japan; and Rockville, Maryland. In 2007, it closed offices in Wanchai, Hong Kong; Beijing, China; and Norwood, Massachusetts.
The company has subleased a third of the 86,000 square feet it leases as its headquarters in Milpitas and successfully subleased most of its 49,000-square-foot Irvine facility and is seeking to sublet the remaining 13,200 square feett .
The company, which makes most of its money selling core system software that helps coordinate components within personal computers and other digital devices, did open an office in October in Bangalore, India.
We last posted about Phoenix about a year ago when the company issued stock options to executives that included an additional hurdle to their vesting in addition to the usual time-based requirements.
