Anu Basu, a professor of entrepreneurship at San Jose State University, spotted our Pink Slip 2.0 project and wondered whether it might dove-tail with her own academic interest – the relationship between job loss and entrepreneurship. “In other words,” she told me, “under what circumstances does job loss push someone into entrepreneurship?”

I find that a fascinating project on its own. With so many of you recently laid-off from Silicon Valley tech-focused and even start-up jobs, it really does beg the question: Might this recession, despite the extreme hardships it’s placing on the jobless community, somehow light a fire of entreprenurial spirit under some of the recently downsized tech folks?

There may be ways we can partner with Anu’s project at SJSU in the coming weeks and months. If you have any ideas, please share them with us. In the meantime, she’d like to hear from any of you who might want to take part in her survey. You can find her at economy@cob.sjsu.edu
