GM escapee re-joins Exponent

Robert Lange has rejoined Exponent (Nasdaq:EXPO), the Menlo Park engineering and scientific consulting firm that was known as Failure Analysis when Lange left the company in 1994 to join General Motors. (We always got a kick out of its former ticker symbol, FAIL.) Lange is now a group vice president responsible for vehicle engineering, biomechanics, human factors, data & statistical sciences and visual communications practices.

While at GM, Lange served as an executive director for Vehicle Structure and Safety Integration and served on the company’s Traffic Safety Strategy Board. Among his responsibilities at GM were the integration of structure and safety, advanced safety engineering, safety technology research and development, production program engineering for safety performance, defects investigations, consumer complaint records and reports, products liability consulting, biomechanics and test dummies, safety policy, and consumer “metrics.”

The announcement of his re-hiring came the same day that General Motors reported that sales
in its third quarter
fell by nearly half in October from the same month last year.
