Adobe to buy new green facility in Massachusetts for $44.7 million
Adobe Systems, the graphics software developer based in San Jose, said it will buy a building under construction in Waltham, Mass., valued at $44.7 million, according to a press release today. The company will eventually relocate its 200 employees from leased facilities in nearby Newton and give it “room for continued growth in the Boston area.”
Adobe Systems, downtown San Jose’s premier Silicon Valley resident whose towers on Almaden Boulevard were the first in the nation to receive three platinum certifications for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design — the highest rating awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council — plans to jointly pursue with the building’s developer LEED certification through for both the exterior shell and the interior of the building, known as Overlook Center (artist rendition pictured above).
Lest anyone be concerned about Adobe’s attachment to San Jose, recall that it bought a
two-acre parcel and 4.5-acre site in downtown from SJW, which included the San Jose water utility’s landmark headquarters built in 1934. (SJW just moved its operations at the historic building to West Taylor Street earlier this month.) Adobe bought the property in 2006 for expansion and has the rights to build 1 million square feet of office space nearby.
