EBay, StumbleUpon spotted in dark corner booth

Like grass pollen, those rumors about eBay acquiring social-bookmarking site StumbleUpon are thick in the air again today. The latter has reportedly been talking about a sale since last fall, and in mid-April, TechCrunch and others reported it was close to terms with the auction giant, with a price range estimated between $45 million and $75 million (see “Serendipitous surfing: Rollin’ and Stumblin’ “). The rumor got fresh life today from the Wall Street Journal (subscription required), which cited a price on the high end of the previous estimates but said the talks could fall apart if someone sneezes hard. And even after three weeks of pondering, no one’s quite sure what eBay would do with the technology if it did buy it.
